2011년을 마무리 하면서
안녕하세요?
정작 종이엽서를 보내려고 보니까 주소를 몰라서 이렇게 전자엽서로 대신합니다.
전 옆에 그림을 고른 것에서 보시듯이, 이런 그림을 고를 마음이 생겼다는 측면에서, 지난 2년 전에 비하면 한결 여유가 생겼습니다. 맹자에 나오는 “유항산자 유항심(有恒産者有恒心)” 이란 말대로 사람이 일정한 돈벌이가 있어야 마음이 편한 것이지, 일정한 수입도 없이 그저 자기 마음이 지어내는 것으로 마음이 편하다고 하면 그것은 도인이나 하는 것이지 아무나 하는 것이 아닌 거구나 싶습니다.
전 이 그림을 보며 소금물에 불린 팽이치고, 제 아버님이 만들어 주셨던 썰매, 그리고 대나무로 스키를 타던 어린 시절 생각이 났습니다. 아울러, 사람이 살아가는 모습이라는 것이 여기든, 저기든, 어제든, 오늘이든 다 비슷하구나, 하고 느꼈습니다. 이제는 이런 모든 것들이, 우리가 삶이라고 부르는 것들이, 너무 산업화/상업화가 된 것 같습니다. 그러면서 과거가 더 좋게 느껴진다고 하면 제가 이제 구세대에 들어간다는 증거일까요?
그저 우리가 서기 2011년, 단기 4344년 이라고 이름 지은 한 해가 또 지나가는 것 뿐이거늘, 그 한 해 동안에 지구가 태양을 한 바퀴 돌고, 태양을 머금은 우주가 어디론가 팽창하며 움직이고,..., 그런 것들이 우리가 알아차리지도 모르는 새에 일어난다는 것이, 그런 천운(天運)으로 하여 한 해가 지나 간다고 생각하니, 지금, 그리고 여기에 우리가 함께 사는 것이 참 기적이라 느껴지기도 합니다. 그래서 한 해 끝에 동시대를 같이 살아가는 사람들을 생각하는 것, 그리고 감사하는 것. 그 일이 생산적인 것이기를 바라고, 그리하여 편안한 마음으로 한 해를 마무리 하고, 희망찬 새 마음으로 다가오는 한 해를 도모할 생각을 하면 참 좋겠다는 생각을 합니다.
모쪼록 묵은 해 마무리 잘 하시고, 다른 가족 분들과도 함께 더 건강하고 행복한 새 해 일구어 가시기를 바랍니다.

Season's Greetings for the year 2011
Greetings!
At the end of the year 2011, I’m thinking about you and your family.
As for me, I feel more at home here in Europe as you could see, I even have extra time to spend browsing many pictures that will go with this message.
As Mencius said thousands years ago “where is was constant influx of income; there is constant peace of mind(有恒産者有恒心)”, there is more peace in my mind compared to 2 years ago. Among the Chinese characters used in this sentence, ‘産’ has meaning of not only ‘income’ but also ‘production’, ‘giving birth’, ‘creation’, etc. I wish more people have a way to reach ‘産’.
When I saw this piece of art in the Royal Museums of Fine Arts of Belgium, it reminded me when I was a kid spinning a top, sleighing with the sleigh my dad created, and skiing with split bamboo, At the same time, I felt the way of life as we live on earth is more or less the same regardless of when you live, and where to live. Life in modernized world is now based on the production by machines, not necessarily by creation of humans. Am I now a member of the old generation when I feel the older life style was better?
Yet another year we named 2011 is just passing by. When I think it as a part of heavenly movements; Mother Earth rotating the Father Sun, solar system moving in the vast Universe while my senses do not sense, I feel being one of the contemporary earthlings is so miraculous and very mysterious. I am so grateful when I think of the people who crossed paths with mine. I just hope this act of thinking could create something productive, so that we end this year with something good, and start the new year with some great hope with constantly renewed mind.
